Why Choose Stone Worktops?

Stone worktops are more than just a pretty surface - they're an investment in your home that combines beauty and practicality. Most of our customers tell us they love their stone worktops because:

  • They last for decades with basic care
  • They add significant value to your property
  • They provide a perfect surface for baking and food prep
  • They're much more heat resistant than alternatives
  • They make a kitchen look more expensive and high-end

Since opening our Mansfield showroom in 2022, we've installed hundreds of stone worktops for local homeowners. Michael has over 15 years of experience working with stone materials, meaning your kitchen is in safe hands.

Granite Worktops

Granite is a natural stone that's been used in buildings for thousands of years. Each granite worktop is completely unique - when you choose granite, nobody else will have exactly the same kitchen as you!

What Makes Granite Special

Granite comes directly from the earth. It's formed from cooled magma deep underground and is made up of minerals like quartz, feldspar, and mica. These combine to create the beautiful speckled patterns granite is famous for.

When you visit our Mansfield showroom, we'll show you actual granite slabs so you can pick the exact piece that will become your worktop. No surprises!

Granite Worktop Options

We source our granite from quality suppliers and offer many options:

  • Colours: Black, white, grey, beige, blue, green, and more
  • Patterns: Speckled, veined, or consistent
  • Finishes: Polished (shiny), honed (matte), or leathered (textured)
  • Edge styles: Straight, bullnose, ogee, waterfall, and more
  • Thickness: Usually 20mm or 30mm

Many Mansfield homeowners prefer darker granites like Black Pearl or Star Galaxy for a dramatic look, while others opt for lighter options like Kashmir White that brighten smaller kitchens.

Granite Worktop Care

Granite needs a bit more care than quartz, but it's still pretty easy to maintain:

  • We seal all our granite worktops during installation
  • Re-seal once a year (we can do this for you)
  • Clean with warm water and mild soap
  • Wipe up spills quickly, especially acidic things like lemon juice or wine
  • Use chopping boards and heat mats

Our customer from Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Sarah, says: "I've had my granite worktop for 4 years now and it still looks brand new. Just a quick wipe after cooking keeps it perfect."

Quartz Worktops

If you want the look of stone with even more practicality, quartz worktops are your answer. Made from crushed quartz (93%) mixed with resin (7%), these engineered stone surfaces give you more control over the appearance.

Why Customers Love Quartz

Quartz has become our most popular choice for Mansfield kitchens because:

  • It's non-porous - no sealing needed!
  • It's more stain-resistant than granite
  • It comes in more consistent colours and patterns
  • It's slightly more flexible during installation
  • It offers modern, consistent looks

Our customer from Rainworth, John, recently told us: "We went with quartz for our new kitchen and it's brilliant with the kids. Spills just wipe right off and it always looks clean."

Quartz Worktop Selection

We offer quartz worktops from several quality brands including:

  • Silestone - Known for antibacterial protection
  • Caesarstone - Offers beautiful natural-looking patterns
  • Symphony - Wide selection of colours and good value

Quartz comes in a huge range of colours and styles:

  • Solid colours: Pure whites, blacks, greys
  • Marble-look: White with grey veining
  • Concrete-look: Industrial modern styles
  • Sparkle finishes: With tiny reflective elements
  • Edge profiles: Same options as granite

The most popular quartz colours in Mansfield right now are white marble-look designs like Calacatta and practical mid-tone greys.

Quartz Worktop Care

Quartz is super easy to maintain:

  • No sealing required ever
  • Just clean with soap and water
  • Resistant to most stains
  • Still use chopping boards and heat mats
  • Avoid harsh chemicals like bleach

Emma usually tells customers: "If you love the idea of something completely natural and unique, go granite. If you want the most practical surface with a specific look, choose quartz."

FAQs About Stone Worktops

Which is better: granite or quartz kitchen worktop?

Neither is "better" - they have different properties. Granite is 100% natural, heat-resistant, and unique. Quartz is more consistent, requires no sealing, and is more stain-resistant. We can help you decide which suits your lifestyle better when you visit our showroom.

How much does a quartz worktop cost UK?

In Mansfield and surrounding areas, quartz worktops typically cost between £300-£550 per square metre installed, depending on the brand, colour, edge profile, and complexity of the job. We offer free quotes so you'll know exactly what you'll pay.

How thick should granite and quartz worktops be?

Most stone worktops are either 20mm or 30mm thick. 30mm is the most popular choice as it gives a more substantial look. For larger islands, sometimes 40mm is preferred for added visual impact. The thickness affects both appearance and price.

Do granite worktops crack?

Granite is extremely durable, but it can crack if subjected to extreme stress or impact. In our experience, this is very rare when properly installed by professionals. Most granite worktops will last decades without issues.

How long do quartz countertops last?

With proper care, quartz worktops can last 25+ years. Most manufacturers offer 10-25 year warranties, and we've never had to replace a quartz worktop due to wearing out - only when customers wanted a style change!
