Kitchen Hardware Mansfield
Transform Your Kitchen Look with New Hardware
Kitchen hardware seems small but makes a big difference. The handles, knobs, and hinges in your kitchen aren't just useful - they add style too. Like jewelry for your kitchen, these little bits can change the whole look without spending loads of money.
At Kudos Kitchens, we've seen how changing just the handles can make an old kitchen feel brand new. Our Mansfield showroom has loads of options to look at and touch, which is way better than just looking at pictures online.
"Last week, I fitted new brass handles in a kitchen in Sutton-in-Ashfield that was about 10 years old. The lady couldn't believe how different it looked - like a whole new kitchen for just a few hundred quid instead of thousands." - Michael, Kudos Kitchens founder
Cabinet Handles and Knobs
Choosing new handles or knobs can be a bit overwhelming with so many choices. Here's what we tell our customers in Mansfield and nearby places like Newark and Arnold:
Traditional Handles and Knobs
Perfect for country-style or classic kitchens. Think cup handles, ornate knobs, and detailed backplates. Materials like antique brass, copper, and bronze work great here.
One of our customers in Kirkby-in-Ashfield chose traditional brass cup handles for her shaker kitchen last month, and it tied everything together perfectly.
Modern Handles
Sleek, simple shapes in chrome, stainless steel, or matt black. Bar handles and slim pulls are popular in newer homes around Mansfield.
What's the Right Size?
For drawers wider than 600mm, you probably want a handle that's about a third of the width. Too small looks wrong, too big gets in the way.
We recently fixed a kitchen in Hucknall where the previous fitter had put massive 200mm handles on tiny drawers - they kept catching on people's clothes! Getting the size right makes all the difference.
Mixing It Up
You don't have to use the same handle everywhere. You could put knobs on doors and handles on drawers. Or use the same design but in different sizes.
Hinges and Opening Mechanisms
Most people don't think about hinges until they go wrong, but they're super important. A good hinge makes your kitchen work smoothly for years.
Soft-Close Tech
No more slamming doors! Soft-close hinges catch the door before it slams. They're quieter and stop the doors getting damaged.
"The soft-close hinges we fitted in Ms. Davis's kitchen in Mansfield Woodhouse have been brilliant - especially with her young kids who used to slam everything!" - Emma from Kudos Kitchens
Hidden vs. Visible Hinges
Most modern kitchens use concealed hinges that you can't see when the door is closed. They look neater but cost a bit more.
Some country-style kitchens look nice with visible hinges, especially in black or brass.
Push-to-Open
No handles needed! Just push the door and it pops open. Great for very modern kitchens or if you keep banging into handles.
Heavy-Duty Options
If you've got big, heavy doors (like a big pantry door), you need stronger hinges. We learnt this the hard way after fitting standard hinges on a massive oak door in Edwinstowe - had to go back and replace them a week later!
Drawer Runners and Systems
Drawer runners might be hidden, but they make a huge difference to how your kitchen feels to use.
Soft-Close Drawers
Just like soft-close doors, these stop drawers slamming shut. Great if you've got kids or tend to be a bit heavy-handed.
We fitted these for a family in Clipstone who said their old drawers used to wake the baby when they closed them at night!
Full-Extension Runners
These let your drawer come all the way out so you can see everything inside, even stuff at the back. No more lost tupperware lids!
Weight Ratings
Standard drawer runners usually hold about 25kg, which is fine for most stuff. But if you're storing heavy pots and pans or lots of plates, you might need heavy-duty runners that can take 40kg or more.
We upgraded the runners in a kitchen in Rainworth where the customer kept their cast iron cookware in the drawers - standard runners just couldn't handle the weight.
Upgrading Old Drawers
We can often fit new soft-close runners to existing drawers, saving you loads of money compared to new cabinets.
Special Kitchen Hardware
Some hardware does clever things to make your kitchen work better.
Pull-Out Systems
These help you reach into deep or corner cabinets. Things like:
- Corner carousel systems for awkward corners
- Pull-out larder units
- Wire baskets for veg storage
"The pull-out corner system we fitted for Mr Wilson in Shirebrook totally changed how he used his kitchen - no more crawling on hands and knees to find stuff at the back of cupboards!" - Michael
Cabinet Lift Systems
These help with high wall cabinets. The door lifts up and stays open while you get what you need, then closes softly.
Space-Saving Hardware
Pocket door systems let doors slide away inside the cabinet, great for small kitchens or appliance cupboards.
Finishing Touches - Metal Finishes
The finish of your hardware makes a big difference to the overall look.
Matching Your Kitchen Style
- Traditional kitchens: brass, bronze, copper, pewter
- Modern kitchens: chrome, stainless steel, matt black
- Scandinavian style: wood combined with black
What Lasts Longest?
Chrome and stainless steel are usually the toughest, while some brass finishes can tarnish over time. We always recommend looking at samples in our Mansfield showroom to check the quality.
Can You Mix Different Metals?
Yes! But it needs to look planned, not accidental. Try keeping all handles the same, but mixing with different light fittings or taps.
We helped a customer in Ollerton mix brass handles with a stainless steel cooker hood by adding brass accents elsewhere to tie it together.
What's Popular in Mansfield Right Now
Matt black is still really popular, especially in new builds around Mansfield. Brass is making a comeback in the older properties in Southwell and Newark.

Changing your hardware is one of the cheapest ways to update your kitchen.
DIY or Get Help?
Changing handles is fairly easy if the new ones fit the existing holes. But if you need new holes, it can get complicated fast. One slip with the drill and you've damaged your door!
"I tried changing my own handles and ended up with wonky doors and chipped paint. Wish I'd got Kudos to do it from the start!" - Customer in Worksop

- We measure your existing hardware
- Help you choose new pieces that will fit (or suggest options if you want something different)
- Remove old hardware
- Fill and touch up old holes if needed
- Fit new hardware perfectly aligned
Hardware Refresh Package
For £350-£500 (depending on size of kitchen), we can replace all handles and hinges with soft-close versions. It makes your kitchen feel brand new for about a tenth of the cost of a new one!
Questions People Ask Us
What's the most popular kitchen hardware finish in 2024?
Matt black is still really popular in Mansfield, but we're seeing more and more people asking for brushed brass. It's warm without being too yellow like the shiny brass from the 80s.
How do I choose kitchen cabinet hardware?
Start by thinking about your kitchen style and what will match. Bring a door or drawer front to our showroom if you can, so you can see how different handles look against your actual colour. Think about who uses the kitchen too - big hands might need bigger handles!
Should my hardware match my appliances?
Not necessarily. But they should work together. Stainless steel appliances work with most hardware finishes. Black appliances often look good with black or brass hardware.
How often should you update kitchen hardware?
Most people change them when they start looking worn or when they fancy a change. Good quality hardware should last 10-15 years, but styles change faster than that.
What kitchen hardware never goes out of style?
Simple stainless steel or chrome bar handles are pretty timeless. So are plain white ceramic knobs on shaker doors. If you hate making decisions, these are safe bets!
